Today’s Topic: The Big Picture
It’s reproducible!
Today, I’m going to talk about:
Seven Rules for Becoming a Millionaire That Even Ordinary People Can Put into Practice
【Learning Practical Habits from Millionaires — There Is No Universality in a Life Left to Luck】
That’s today’s topic.
Rather than talking about a method where
only one person out of 100 becomes extremely wealthy,
I focus here on methods that can help
all 100 people become financially comfortable.
In other words, this isn’t about a style like:
“Hit it big with a business or speculative investment and make hundreds of millions of yen in a short period of time!!”
Instead, it’s about taking your time and steadily and reliably working toward becoming wealthy.
~Learning from the Classic Book The Millionaire Next Door~
This time, I’m going to introduce
seven characteristics of millionaires
from the American bestseller
The Millionaire Next Door.
(Source: [Rakuten])
The millionaires referred to here are people who have
$1 million or more in assets—
roughly 100 million yen or more—
in other words, wealthy individuals.
The attitudes toward money introduced in this book belong to people who built their wealth slowly and steadily over time.
For anyone who wants to achieve success through hard work rather than gambling, this book is definitely worth learning from.
~Why Do These Seven Characteristics Have “Validity” and “Universality”?~
The image of millionaires presented in this book
is based on
a huge amount of statistical data.
In other words, these aren’t characteristics identified from just one lucky person who happened to become successful.
They were extracted from the characteristics shared by
- tens of thousands of people
- hundreds of thousands of people
who achieved financial success.
That means these characteristics have both
- validity
- universality
That’s why the seven characteristics I’m going to discuss today overlap considerably with the ideas I’ve talked about in my other articles.
In that sense, you could think of this as
- a comprehensive summary
- a review
that helps you organize what you’ve learned so far.
So, why not check how many of these characteristics apply to you?
Let’s get into the main topic.
【Seven Characteristics of Millionaires】
▶Characteristic No. 1: They live on far less than they earn.
The key phrase here is:
“far less.”
Suppose someone earns 300,000 yen a month and lives on 250,000 yen.
They can save 50,000 yen every month, right?
When you think about it normally,
that alone is already pretty impressive.
But many millionaires have lived lifestyles such as:
earning 1 million yen a month while living on just 150,000 yen.
When you hear that, you might think:
“What?!?”
But if you live this way,
you can theoretically save 850,000 yen every month.
That’s roughly
10 million yen a year.
If you invest those savings,
you could become a millionaire in just seven or eight years.
~“I Don’t Want to Live Like a Cheapskate!” Then Increase Your Income~
Some people might say:
“I don’t want to live such a miserly lifestyle!”
But the word “far” is ultimately about the gap between your income and your spending.
If you don’t want to live a frugal lifestyle,
all you have to do is increase the income side.
For example, suppose you earn around 3 million yen a month.
Even if you spend 1 million yen a month on your lifestyle,
you would still be adding
2 million yen to your assets every month.
That’s 24 million yen a year.
At that rate,
you could become a millionaire in
about four years.
~Wealth Can Only Come from the Difference Between Income and Spending~
Please burn this fundamental principle into your mind.
Wealth is created
from the difference between your income and your spending.
It’s obvious when you think about it.
Even if you earn 10 million yen a year,
if you spend 10 million yen,
your assets won’t increase.
On the other hand,
even if you earn only 3 million yen a year,
if you can live on 1 million yen,
your assets will grow.
If you want to increase your wealth,
live on spending that is
far below your income.
If you can confidently say,
“I live on far less than I earn!”
then you are on the path to becoming a millionaire in the future.
However, if you live on less than you earn,
but the difference isn’t “far” below your income,
it will simply take longer to join the ranks of millionaires.
Simple, right?
The reason I always say that
“the power to save”
should come first
is precisely because of this.
Unless you practice frugality and dramatically widen the gap between your income and your spending,
you cannot build wealth.
So, what about you?
Are you living on spending that is
“far less” than your income?
That is
Characteristic No. 1.
